[Our Magic Place] RP with [livejournal.com profile] velvetdoc

It was pretty and sunny with hardly a cloud in the sky. There was a small breeze blowing around the bench Sarah Jane waited on, ruffling her hair and the light blue skirt. It really was beautiful out today, the perfect weather in her opinion for a first date.

Leaning back in the bench, legs crossed and eyes closed, Sarah smiled contently into the sun as she waited for the Doctor to show up. He'd be here eventually, and until then, there was nothing better to do than enjoy the weather.

"Well, it's not as though I learnt about human dating customs as a teenager. In fact I can barely remember being a teenager." The Doctor gave Sarah a bemused look. "I'm not sure how it would translate into Gallifreyan terms at all."

[identity profile] his-sarah-jane.livejournal.com 2007-04-27 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"And we've already gone over the fact that I don't exactly have the lifespan for any Gallifreyan courtship rituals," she replied with a laugh. "I'd probably be an old woman by the first kiss."

[identity profile] velvetdoc.livejournal.com 2007-04-28 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
"And we can't have that." The Doctor made a sharp turn into the parking lot of the restaurant and parked. "I hope you're hungry."

[identity profile] his-sarah-jane.livejournal.com 2007-04-28 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
"Famished."

Once the car is parked, Sarah Jane opened the passenger side door and stepped out of the vehicle before the Doctor had a chance to act chivalrously again. Her eyes scanned the restaurant entrance, curious to see what sort of place he had picked out.

"It certainly looks nice enough."

[identity profile] velvetdoc.livejournal.com 2007-04-28 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
The Doctor noticed Sarah jumping out of the car and gathered that she didn't want to snap at him again. He presumed the flowers and chocolates had put her in a better mood.

He had made the reservation at one of his favourite restaurants, a small Italian place with a good wine list. He hoped she wasn't expecting something more modern and trendy.

"They make the best pasta I've had outside of Italy." He offered her his arm, half expecting that she wouldn't take it.

[identity profile] his-sarah-jane.livejournal.com 2007-04-28 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Sarah Jane looked at his arm for a moment, and then up at him, and with a carefree smile linked hers with his. It was a date, after all. They might as well act like it.

"Well, that has to be good if you're the one giving it such a praise," she replied as they started to walk in. "Italian is always a good choice."

[identity profile] velvetdoc.livejournal.com 2007-04-29 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
When they walked through the door, the Doctor slipped away and spoke quietly to the owner for a moment, before turning to Sarah.

"The back garden is open, if you'd like to eat outside."

[identity profile] his-sarah-jane.livejournal.com 2007-04-29 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
The idea of eating in the back garden did sound rather romantic and Sarah nodded, finally pulling her attention away from a scrutiny of the restaurant.

"That would be a lovely idea, I think." She linked her arm back into his and beamed up at him. "What do you say, Doctor?"

[identity profile] velvetdoc.livejournal.com 2007-04-29 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"I asked you." He said with a grin as he nodded to the owner.

They were lead to a table for two under a brightly coloured umbrella, and the Doctor, with a twinkle in his eye, pulled out Sarah's chair for her and braced himself for the inevitable explosion.

[identity profile] his-sarah-jane.livejournal.com 2007-04-29 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"First off, just because you're playing the gentleman here doesn't mean you're incapable of giving input on whether or not we eat out here or inside," Sarah began, although a quick look around the garden made her happy they did chose this table.

It was beautiful out still, and the flowers were finally in bloom and the whole area just seemed serene and gorgeous. But she wasn't done with the lecture yet. She gestured to the chair and continued.

"Secondly, I am more than capable of pulling out my own chair. It's a sweet sentiment, but completely unnecessary in today's age."

[identity profile] velvetdoc.livejournal.com 2007-04-30 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
"Excuse me, I assumed I gave my opinion when I asked if the garden was open. And as for the chair...well, I just like the spark in your eyes when you're riled at me." The Doctor grinned brightly at her.

[identity profile] his-sarah-jane.livejournal.com 2007-04-30 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"Is that your plan for the evening?" Sarah laughed, eyes sparkling. "To continue to get me riled up?"

[identity profile] velvetdoc.livejournal.com 2007-04-30 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
The Doctor sat down in his own seat and watched her with bright eyes. "No, I thought I'd alternate that with being utterly charming and keep you completely off balance."

[identity profile] his-sarah-jane.livejournal.com 2007-04-30 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
She finally took a seat in her chair, tucking it in carefully under the table. Sarah glanced at the menu in front of her for a moment before meeting the Doctor's gaze.

"And why's that?"

[identity profile] velvetdoc.livejournal.com 2007-04-30 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Because it's more fun that way." The Doctor raised his menu casually so that it covered his expression. Sarah was so much fun to tease.

[identity profile] his-sarah-jane.livejournal.com 2007-04-30 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"You better watch it, Doctor," Sarah half-scolded, half-teased. She mimicked his movements in picking up the menu and using it to hide a grin. "Two can play at this game, you know."

[identity profile] velvetdoc.livejournal.com 2007-04-30 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
He peered at her over the menu. "That's good. It's more fun with two."

[identity profile] his-sarah-jane.livejournal.com 2007-04-30 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Sarah grinned almost wickedly, shoving aside any internal debate toward her next reply. "Oh, of course. And there are so many more things you can do with two rather than with one."

The statement really wasn't meant to be taken innocently at all.

[identity profile] velvetdoc.livejournal.com 2007-04-30 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Admittedly the etiquette book he'd read was about ten years old, but surely she couldn't be suggesting that on the first date. Had what was considered appropriate changed so much in the past decade?

He felt somewhat at sea here, but she clearly expected him to respond in some way, and he did not want to disappoint her.

The Doctor couldn't resist teasing her some more, so he said, "Ah yes, tennis, and chess and even having a conversation is much more interesting when you're not talking to yourself. Or did you have something else in mind?"

[identity profile] his-sarah-jane.livejournal.com 2007-04-30 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
And why couldn't she? Sarah Jane was a modern woman, very much in touch with her own mind, body, and wants.

Especially if it caught the Doctor off guard. Oh, definitley if this were the case.

"Well, I was thinking of something a little more challenging than tennis," Sarah answered, still smiling in the same fashion. "And much more invigorating than chess."

[identity profile] velvetdoc.livejournal.com 2007-04-30 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"So drag racing? Mountain climbing? Snowball fighting? Country dancing? Stop me when I get close."

One of these days he'd show her the etiquette book. She'd probably find it amusing.

In the meantime he saw nothing wrong with winding her up a little.

[identity profile] his-sarah-jane.livejournal.com 2007-04-30 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
She shook her head at every option, giggling softly when he mentioned country dancing.

"Honestly, Doctor, can you see me trying to country dance?" Sarah leaned her head on her hand. "Think... something that's better off done in private."

[identity profile] velvetdoc.livejournal.com 2007-04-30 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"Are you trying to recruit me to help you take over the world, Sarah Jane Smith?" The Doctor grinned at her.

He was about to say more, but the waiter appeared, ready to take their orders and the Doctor nodded at Sarah to go first.

[identity profile] his-sarah-jane.livejournal.com 2007-04-30 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, food, right. That was the whole reason they came to this restaurant, wasn't it? Sarah ducked her head back behind the menu, trying to hide her blush that resulted from his sudden interruption.

"I. Ah, I'll have the gnocchi please."

[identity profile] velvetdoc.livejournal.com 2007-04-30 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"And the penne ala vodka for me." The Doctor, after a glance at Sarah, ordered an appropriate wine and handed the waiter their menus.

After the waiter had left, the Doctor grinned at Sarah and said, "You never answered my question. Are you trying to recruit me for some dastardly deed?"
