[Mixed Muses] A Meeting with Simon Skinner

It has been a long week and Sarah Jane is ever so grateful when her attic door opens up to Milliways again. While she has found herself really enjoying Luke, Maria, and Clyde's company, a part of her still seeks to be alone. And to be in the company of adults that will accept her.

So, it's with a cuppa and her notebook that Sarah settles into a booth. She won't admit it to herself, but she's looking for someone in particular. Christmas shopping has been taking it's tole, resulting in her buying a few gifts she hadn't planned on. Including one for her one-night stand.

If he ever shows up.

"Pride and Prejudice isn't the same thing as the trash they consider 'romance' these days. The covers for that novel are less farcical, for starters. Besides, the romance in The Red Shoes is incidental. The film is about ballet, not romance."

Rather than continuing the argument, Sarah asks a question that is rather on the tip of her tongue. "Do you like ballet, Simon?"

[identity profile] slasherofprices.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"I studied it as a teenager."

[identity profile] his-sarah-jane.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"Really? I'd love a demonstration some time."

[identity profile] slasherofprices.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 02:05 pm (UTC)(link)
A rueful grin. "It's been year--decades since I last did anything related to ballet."

[identity profile] his-sarah-jane.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"And it's been years since I last had a proper game of field hockey. It only means we're rusty," she says, still smiling. "I believe us both capable of anything we set our minds to."

[identity profile] slasherofprices.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"--field hockey?" He laughs as he speaks. The irony's not lost on him.

[identity profile] his-sarah-jane.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Sarah Jane nods, chuckling herself. "I was very much the tomboy in my youth."

[identity profile] slasherofprices.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"And I, apparently, was just the opposite."

[identity profile] his-sarah-jane.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"It doesn't make any less of us."

Beat.

"I rather fancy a man who can dance and isn't afraid to admit it."

[identity profile] slasherofprices.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"We've already established that you're exceptionally odd," he says fondly.

[identity profile] his-sarah-jane.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
She chuckles again. "I believe this time, that isn't a quirk belonging just to me."

[identity profile] slasherofprices.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"You aren't the only one who thinks that about me."

[identity profile] slasherofprices.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"Back when I was--" Alive. He flicks something off his arm. That statement, perhaps. "--they used to call me 'Sissy.' Because of the ballet. I never really liked it. I tolerated it. On the other hand, everyone else seemed to love it."

[identity profile] his-sarah-jane.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Sarah Jane shakes her head. It's a ridiculous nickname in her opinion. Then again, she had never been one for such names in the first place.

She hesitates for a moment and then reaches out to place a hand on top of his. "I wouldn't consider you 'sissy' at all. If you ask me, your more of a man than half of those I've met."

[identity profile] slasherofprices.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
He's fallen back into old habits: concealing what he really thinks and feels. He did this a lot while he was alive to avoid causing a fuss. He's doing it now for the same reason.

"Thank you," he replies, pointedly avoiding any gestures that might reveal a lie.

[identity profile] his-sarah-jane.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
She looks at him before giving his hand a slight squeeze. "I really do mean it."

[identity profile] slasherofprices.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
He wants to ask why. For the sake of peace and quiet, he won't. He grins softly, radiating a thankfulness he doesn't quite feel inside.

[identity profile] his-sarah-jane.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Sarah Jane smiles back as she awkwardly moves her hand back to her teacup.

The conversation has seemed to reach a stand still. She's not too sure what to say now.

[identity profile] slasherofprices.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
For the record, neither is Simon. He has a mind to go back upstairs. Quietly, he reaches for his own cup of tea, sips it, while staring at the journal. What is he going to write in there? Dear Diary, Today I was lazy and slept until three, if three exists here. Tomorrow I think I will do the same thing.

[identity profile] his-sarah-jane.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Sarah Jane sighs softly, leaning back in the booth. A part of her had been hoping for some sort of offer. She did rather enjoy waking up with someone else in bed the last time they met. Is it so horrible to want it again?

But she doesn't quite know how to bring it up.

[identity profile] slasherofprices.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Simon finishes his tea, disposing of the cup by handing it to a passing wait rat. He picks up the journal--he can't help the small smile that cracks as he does so. Somebody bought him a present. It had been some time since he received one. When he looks at Sarah, his smile becomes a touch rueful.

"I...I'm go back to my room, now. I'm a little tired."

[identity profile] his-sarah-jane.livejournal.com 2007-10-14 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Sarah Jane nods, opening her mouth to say something, then closing it, only to part her lips again.

"Would you... oh, would you like some company?"

Read: it be secks time now plz?

His smile broadens. It's not rueful at all. "I would."
