[Milliways] OOM: London, 2006.

It had been two wonderful weeks of honeymoon spent in a suite on the capital city of Eiattu. The week that followed back in James' - no, their - world had been a busy one. Sarah had had her first appointment with a doctor in London had been successful. Although it was still too early to determine the gender, so far the child was completely healthy.

Aside from that, Sarah Jane had renewed searching for a flat with new interest. After a meeting with a real estate agent today, she came home absolutely thrilled. They had planned on letting a place, preferably a snug but no two snug two-bedroom somewhere in Notting Hill not too far from the neighborhood they resided in now.

But this? This was perfect. She had quickly fallen in love with a four story town house on Portland Road that her agent had taken her on a tour on. It seemed perfect for a family: enough spare rooms to serve as home offices, a beautiful kitchen, and a patio garden that was absolutely charming. She had all the photographs and papers and blue prints scattered on the table in front of her. And an appointment for viewing again later tonight.

She stared at it happily. Now she only needed James' opinion on it.

The real estate agent continues to talk as she leads James and Sarah through a tour of the house. She talks more about the previous residents as well as an overall history of the building and neighborhood.

The next room they come across is the study, after passing by the stairwell (which leads both up and down) and another closet. It's simply furnished, with an old rolltop desk left inside. The colours are basic, but what is most impressive of the room is the window overlooking the garden below.

Sarah grabs James and rushes him towards the window, pointing outside. The garden has been kept despite the absence of residents and is rather pretty and full, with enough room for a bench or two and a table. "Isn't it lovely, James?"

“It is,” he replies, leaning in close to the window. He looks back to her over his shoulder, smirking. “It’d be a bit of a distraction, though, wouldn’t it?”

"I'd like to consider it inspiration," she retorts. "And a good retreat for when your child decides to make me ill or uncomfortable again."

Sarah Jane only smiles sweetly at him, grabbing his hand and squeezing it for a moment before turning to chat briefly with Lissie. The two women stand by the door of the study for a minute or so. Lissie nods and Sarah turns back to walk over to James.

"If you'd like, Lissie will stay down here while I show you the rest of the house."

James gives Sarah a Look that asks if them being alone is a really good idea.

"I didn't know you were studying real estate," he quips.

[identity profile] his-sarah-jane.livejournal.com 2007-10-20 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm not," she laughs. "But I was here earlier today and Lissie's already told me all the pertinent information. And I know how you tend to despise people trying to sell you things."

[identity profile] callitavesper.livejournal.com 2007-10-20 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"And you think you'll fare better?"

[identity profile] his-sarah-jane.livejournal.com 2007-10-20 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"I like to think I'm rather good at persuading you, James," she answers, squeezing his hand. "Well, shall we start with the bottom-most floor or go see a bedroom?"

[identity profile] callitavesper.livejournal.com 2007-10-20 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Let's start with the bottom-most floor."

[identity profile] his-sarah-jane.livejournal.com 2007-10-20 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Sarah Jane beams, nodding another thanks at Lissie as she tugs James out of the study and towards the stairs to the bottom floor. The stairs lead out to a nicely painted dining room, with a door at the far end from the stairs that leads to the garage. She points it out to him before leading him into the dining room.

"There's a loo behind all those closets behind the stairs. And the kitchen is that way," she points excitedly. "It's a rather convenient setup. And if we wanted, the garden is on the other side of the kitchen. We'd be able to eat outside just as easily."

[identity profile] callitavesper.livejournal.com 2007-10-20 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"You already have half the house planned out, don't you?"

[identity profile] his-sarah-jane.livejournal.com 2007-10-20 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"Perhaps," she chuckles, leading him towards the kitchen. It's modern and posh and very much like the kitchen they have now. The moonlight shines in through the glass door from the garden.

Then, seizing the opportunity of being alone in a rather small space (well, significantly smaller than any of the others they've been in), Sarah places a hand on each of his cheeks and kisses him soundly.

"Just imagine everything we could do in here."

[identity profile] callitavesper.livejournal.com 2007-10-20 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hmm." He closes his eyes, pausing before kissing her back. "Let me see the rest of the house first."

[identity profile] his-sarah-jane.livejournal.com 2007-10-20 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
She hums contently before nodding. "Upstairs then?"

[identity profile] his-sarah-jane.livejournal.com 2007-10-20 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
And so, Sarah leads the way up two flights of stairs until they're on the third floor. They walk past the stairway upward to the end of the hall.

"The washroom is in there," she says, pushing gently on the door to her left. "And that, opposite us, would be the master bedroom."

It's the biggest bedroom in the townhouse, and the room Sarah Jane had fallen in love with the most. The room is painted to offset the fireplace and the two front aspect windows let a little of the street light trickle in. It is everything she had previously described it as earlier.

[identity profile] callitavesper.livejournal.com 2007-10-21 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's nice," he says, audibly impressed. There isn't anything wrong with the house, as far as he can see. The only problem is money.

Funny how a man who, not too long ago, never planned for the future is now concerned about finances.

[identity profile] his-sarah-jane.livejournal.com 2007-10-21 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"I think it's much more than nice, James," she responds, pulling him over towards the center of the bedroom. She places a hand on his other arm when she stops, leaning up to whisper in his ear, "I fancy it as perfect."

Then, continuing on the impulse from the kitchen minutes earlier, she kisses his earlobe and starts a chain leading to his lips.

[identity profile] callitavesper.livejournal.com 2007-10-21 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"Mmm, Sarah, I don't think that's such a good idea." Yeah, he does like being kissed, but he also knows them and where a things like that would lead to.

[identity profile] his-sarah-jane.livejournal.com 2007-10-21 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"If we put the payment down, it wouldn't be a problem," she murmurs, working her way down his chin to the other side of his neck. "Could you imagine making love in a room like this? Or the kitchen? Or the garden? Or christening every single part of this house? We'd be busy for hours."

[identity profile] callitavesper.livejournal.com 2007-10-21 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"--I was talking about what you're doing now."

[identity profile] his-sarah-jane.livejournal.com 2007-10-21 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
She giggles and blushes, finally pulling away. Sarah Jane crosses to the corner. He's right, after all. Especially given the state she's in, the christening would start far before they made the initial payment.

"Seducing you into helping to buy a house probably wasn't one of my best ideas," she mutters, not ready to turn around and face him. "I don't know why I thought it would work. There's far too many serious decisions that go in to something like this. I think, though, that this would be a lovely place for us to grow old together, James. There's plenty of space and it's in a rather convenient location. And we can afford it. We just have to be careful."

[identity profile] callitavesper.livejournal.com 2007-10-21 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes, but... I'm still a little concerned, you know. Val--I mean, our child won't be here for a while yet, but before we make sure she has enough space we have to be certain we have enough money to raise her. I think affording food and clothing is a lot more important in the near future than living in a house."

[identity profile] his-sarah-jane.livejournal.com 2007-10-21 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"Valerie," Sarah corrects, rather amused at his slip of tongue.

"And I do have money. I wouldn't suggest this sort of possibility if I hadn't looked in to all the factors it would affect. It's what I've been doing all day, James. We can afford it, be careful for the next few months until Valerie is born. I'll be getting a proper job soon enough, and I've been writing freelance since the engagement. Then, when I go home, there's that money - enough that we wouldn't have to worry about feeding and clothing Valerie or ourselves."
