[Meta] Open verse RP, anyone?

[ooc: being stuck in doors is starting to grate on my nerves, especially on this lovely fourth of july day. so! if you feel like interacting with sarah jane smith, with any pup from any universe from any canon from ANYTHING really, i would love you forever. bored mun is bored and tired of being sick.]

On [noun], the glow of the [noun] seemed to sparkle rather than illuminate the [noun] in front of Sarah Jane. So far, the day had been relatively [adjective]. There had been little [-ing verb] to be done and little [noun] to [verb].

Still, Sarah couldn't help but decide that today was a very [adjective] day for [-ing verb]. A very [adjective], indeed.

He might've looked mildly smug at the irritation on her face. Maybe that's what he was going for.

"Those haven't been corrected yet."

"Oh!"

And this time a book does go flying in his direction.

"You and your flippin' corrections!"

The book is caught with ease.

"You know, broken spines and bent pages are also reasons for fines."

"My books."

"You prefer them to be incorrect like their owner, then?"

"Actually," she answered slowly, tossing another book at him, quickly followed by another, "I'd prefer you to get over yourself!"

Both books were easily blocked with the book in his hand and they fell to the ground in undignified heaps.

"You've grown predictable, Mademoiselle Smith."

Predictable? Predictable was an awful word.

The book throwing stopped. "And you... oh, blimey, I can't figure you out. You're an enigma, Doctor. Much more so than any of the others I've met."

And cue a wide, smug grin.

"It comes with age, Sarah Jane."

"As, apparently, does the smugness." She rolled her eyes, leaving her stack to come sit on the Doctor's desk. "You're even worse then I remember. Odd thing is, I'm staying with a man that looks a lot like you but you're nothing alike. Which begs the question: what went different?"

That smug look goes dark again. She does know the right questions to put him out of a good mood.

"Divergence early on in the regeneration. Complicated." He scratches the back of his head which pulls a bit of his long hair from the ponytail. "Very complicated."

"A story for now or some other time?"

"A story for never."

In her opinion, that wasn't an answer. Sarah crossed her arms over her chest and looked down at him. "Why not?"

His stare was blank.

"Because I don't like you."

A lie; he loved his Sarah Jane dearly. But it worked better if the others from other universes didn't get too close.

Her eyebrows raised, giving him a look that said she very much didn't believe him. If he didn't like her, he wouldn't even bother with saying this much.

The Doctor shrugged, then went back to correcting. She didn't have to believe him.

All the same, he smirked slightly. "I forgot how stubborn you were when you were younger."

It was a smirk returned until she noticed the return of the correcting. Quickly, she placed her hand down on the pages of the book.

"I thought I told you to stop that."

"I thought I told you 'no.'"

And the most pleasant grin he can manage.

She smiles back, overly-sweet.

"And I thought we've established that I don't care."

Now, matter-of-factly with out looking up from the book: "Actually, we established that you do care by how you're pressing the matter and continuing to stay in my presence even after I've done my verybest to make you go away. You also seem to have some sort of problem with authority, not that I mind it. And you're probably disturbingly lonely because you feel the need to spend your time with a cantankerous old man like me."

"You forget that I grew up with cantankerous old scientists - just like you, in fact - visiting my aunt's house all the time. Maybe I'm simply seeking out something familiar after all the chaos that happened."

She paused for a moment to look him over. "It also seems that your very best hasn't been your best after all. Perhaps a part of you wants me to stay."

He looks up at that and his face is a mask of utter confusion.

"And do what? Have tea? Argue over the virtues of wrong books?"

"Since when do you have an issue with arguing?"

It's really getting time for her to leave him alone. So, he goes for extra rude.

"I don't like to do a battle of wits with the unarmed, Sarah Jane."
