[Mixed Muses] Dinner with Simon and Luke

She can't remember the last time she has really felt this nervous. It isn't been the first time Sarah Jane had brought Simon home to show him Ealing and her little world. But it is the first time she has brought him home to meet her son. It is, quite possibly, the first time that she has brought anyone of the male persuasion home to meet her son.

Sarah is, quite surprisingly to herself, a nervous wreck.

The dinner table is properly dressed with a table cloth. There are candles and flowers on the table and she has actually spent a good part of her day in the kitchen. Her best silverware and dishes aere out on the table. And, she thinks, the meal smells decent enough. She likes to cook, on occasion. But Sarah Jane knows that she is far from being the best cook in the world.

Now she only needs Luke to come home from Clyde's. She turns to smile at Simon, glancing quickly at her watch.

"He ought to be here any moment."

"Oh," she mutters before laughing.

That one was quite possibly worse than Luke's.

"Who's there?"

Sadly, Simon could do this all night.

So could Luke.

Unfortunately.

"A shame," he replies, smirking. "Amnesia's a terrible thing... Knock Knock."

"Simon," Sarah Jane interrupts, looking at both of them. She hadn't meant this to turn into a marathon. "Must you?"

'D:, Mum,' says Luke's face.

D:, sugarpiehoneypop, says Skinner's face.

"Must I not?"

This is not fair. Absolutely not fair at all.

Sarah takes a deep breath, trying to remain stern. "This is the last one."

"Who's there?" Luke asks eagerly, before Sarah Jane can change her mind.

"Sarah."

"Sarah who?"

At which point Simon gives Sarah a pointed and mischievous look. "Sarah reason you're not laughing?"

Rather than laughing, Sarah Jane comes close to facepalming. She sighs audibly this time, shaking her head at the pair of them.

Luke, however?

He's laughing.

This one will get re-told.

"See, Sarah, it wasn't bad, was it?" She gets elbowed.

Reluctantly, "I suppose not."

"It was good," he says, rather happily.

Yep. That one will so be reused.

"I'm glad to amuse."

And Sarah Jane is very glad that they found some common ground.

She looks at Luke, smiling again. "Would you mind if Simon continues to come over on a more regular basis?"
