[Milliways] OOM: Flat 007

It's nearly midnight according to the clock in their room. It's nearly midnight and that means that, at least in Milliways, it is nearly James' birthday. And after the week they've had, there's nothing in the universe that can stop Sarah Jane from celebrating this day.

She had kicked him out of the room a couple of hours ago, claiming that packing can be finished in the morning and that she needed time to rest. Truth is though, she's been busy decorating their room with brightly coloured streamers Bar provided, blue and silver and yellow. There are a few balloons scattered around, and a small cake on the desk next to a wrapped package and a card.

Sarah takes a moment to check her appearance in the mirror, smiling at her choice of dress (short, flattering, and blue) and her done up hair and make up. Nothing can hide the fading marks or gauze on her face, but that's okay.

Tonight's not about remembering the past, but celebrating the future.

Sarah snorts, following closely behind him. It certainly took him long enough to guess that.

"Eager are we?"

"It's my birthday," he insists. "Of course I'm eager."

So eager that it's not one second before he reaches out and grabs the box, rattling it in his ear first.

"Don't do that!" Sarah Jane says quickly, darting a hand out to stop him from shaking the package.

She doesn't want it to break, after all.

A moment later, she laughs. "I never thought I'd see the day when James Bond acts almost childish."

"That's because you haven't seen my movie yet," he replies, starting to pick apart the wrapping.

"I think that may be one movie I'll skip," she answers, a hint of jealously in her voice.

She's sure she won't be in that movie. And Sarah Jane doesn't want to see the girl that replaces her in it.

Still, "I much prefer having you in person, you know."

He lifts an eyebrow, continuing to pick apart the wrapping until...



...it's unwrapped...

The minute Sarah sees the plastic showing the twelve inch doll with the blond hair, blue eyes, fitted tux, and gun, she starts to laugh. The box has the franchise label on it, the 007 gun, and his name is labelled on the side. It can't be any more obvious who the figure is supposed to mimic

"I'm guessing it's from the future. A future, that is, from one of the Earth's where you're fictional. Bar gave it to me when I asked for a small toy of you."

And this one, for the record, is not allowed to be melted in the microwave.

"W--"

Yeah, that's the extent of his English right now. Would you like him to try again en français?

Sarah fills in his silence with her giggles, pulling off any remaining paper from the box and kissing him.

"I thought so."

"I--"

James holds up the thing, looking at it with much o.O

She drops her voice a pitch and fills in, with all mock seriousness, "I think you're absolutely wonderful, Sarah Jane. I think this is absolutely wonderful, too."

Maybe he's trying to spell something!

"And I can't wait to try this cake," Sarah continues in her best James-voice, "and that champagne you've brought up. Maybe even on you, expensive lingerie be damned."

James would grin if his brain weren't utterly shattered.

"It's Bollinger '69," she says, that brightly watted smile still firmly in place as she watches his reactions. "I was told it would meet your approval. And the cake's a basic strawberry short cake; I thought it would be best to keep it simple."

But that doesn't mean it isn't beautifully decorated, with the words 'Happy Birthday James' written in a fancy script, and balloons decorating the sides.

James closes his eyes and shakes his head, shaking off his shock and confusion. "Thank you," he says, gingerly placing the action figure on the table.

Couldn't she have bought him a tie?

The tie will be for his actual birthday. When it can be better used for certain purposes.

Sarah laughs again, wrapping her arm back around him in a sort of hug/lean embrace. "You can't stand it, can you?"

"What am I going to do with it?

"Keep it as a reminder of this place and me," she answers without missing a beat. "Since I was, after all, the first person to tell you about the films and such."

He grins at this. "I'll keep it hidden somewhere. Can't explain this to a guest who wonders why I have a figurine of myself."

"We'll find a place to keep it together," Sarah Jane decides and plants a small kiss on his upper arm. "Until then, we do have cake and champagne, if you're interested."

"I am," he replies. "You said it was Bollinger?"

Of course he approves!

"That's what I was told."

The bottle is still in the ice bucket just as Indiana had put it in with the napkins decorating nicely.

"Told by who?"

"Indiana," Sarah says, kissing his arm again before stepping away towards the desk.

She pulls out a small box of candles and matches from the drawer, counts out five, and places them on the cake in a small circle. Then, a match is lit and it's only moments later before the candles are glittering with flames.
