[Milliways] OOM: Flat 007

It's nearly midnight according to the clock in their room. It's nearly midnight and that means that, at least in Milliways, it is nearly James' birthday. And after the week they've had, there's nothing in the universe that can stop Sarah Jane from celebrating this day.

She had kicked him out of the room a couple of hours ago, claiming that packing can be finished in the morning and that she needed time to rest. Truth is though, she's been busy decorating their room with brightly coloured streamers Bar provided, blue and silver and yellow. There are a few balloons scattered around, and a small cake on the desk next to a wrapped package and a card.

Sarah takes a moment to check her appearance in the mirror, smiling at her choice of dress (short, flattering, and blue) and her done up hair and make up. Nothing can hide the fading marks or gauze on her face, but that's okay.

Tonight's not about remembering the past, but celebrating the future.

Whut.

"What?"

James does wrap his arms around her, but in that stunned, "I don't know what you're talking about and this confuses me" way.

"It's your birthday, love," she explains, quickly catching on to that stunned look. She kisses his cheek before continuing. "Well, according to the calender here. And that's good enough a reason for me to celebrate."

He blinks, confused, once. "Oh. Okay, then." He kisses her cheek quickly, arms tightening around her with more confidence. "What did you get me?"

"I'm not telling you."

Reluctantly, Sarah works her way out of his arms to turn the light back on. She wants him to see everything, after all. The second the the room is illuminated again, she looks at him intently, if not nervously, to see his reaction.

Bond's eyebrows shoot up in surprise.

For Bond, that's a pretty intense reaction.

Sarah grins softly, taking a step towards him. "Do you like it?"

He grins, then looks at her. "I do. Even if it's not my birthday."

But you know Sarah Jane doesn't give a fuck it's not his birthday.

"It is here," she scolds gently. "And that counts, especially given the past week. So you better enjoy it, James. I worked hard sneaking all this past you, you know."

"Yes, ma'am."

"And don't ma'am me!"

But it's hard to sound serious with that laugh sneaking in to the end of the demand.

"Certainly. So, what'd you get me?"

"It's over on the desk," Sarah says, slipping and arm around his waist and leaning her head on his arm. "Along with your cake. Your other gift you already have."

"Which is?" Beat. "Oh, yes. You." He kisses her cheek again, then makes way to the desk, eying the package on it.

Sarah snorts, following closely behind him. It certainly took him long enough to guess that.

"Eager are we?"

"It's my birthday," he insists. "Of course I'm eager."

So eager that it's not one second before he reaches out and grabs the box, rattling it in his ear first.

"Don't do that!" Sarah Jane says quickly, darting a hand out to stop him from shaking the package.

She doesn't want it to break, after all.

A moment later, she laughs. "I never thought I'd see the day when James Bond acts almost childish."

"That's because you haven't seen my movie yet," he replies, starting to pick apart the wrapping.

"I think that may be one movie I'll skip," she answers, a hint of jealously in her voice.

She's sure she won't be in that movie. And Sarah Jane doesn't want to see the girl that replaces her in it.

Still, "I much prefer having you in person, you know."

He lifts an eyebrow, continuing to pick apart the wrapping until...



...it's unwrapped...

The minute Sarah sees the plastic showing the twelve inch doll with the blond hair, blue eyes, fitted tux, and gun, she starts to laugh. The box has the franchise label on it, the 007 gun, and his name is labelled on the side. It can't be any more obvious who the figure is supposed to mimic

"I'm guessing it's from the future. A future, that is, from one of the Earth's where you're fictional. Bar gave it to me when I asked for a small toy of you."

And this one, for the record, is not allowed to be melted in the microwave.

Yeah, that's the extent of his English right now. Would you like him to try again en français?

Sarah fills in his silence with her giggles, pulling off any remaining paper from the box and kissing him.

"I thought so."

James holds up the thing, looking at it with much o.O

She drops her voice a pitch and fills in, with all mock seriousness, "I think you're absolutely wonderful, Sarah Jane. I think this is absolutely wonderful, too."
